All the activities were based on group. The very first activity for the day was marble run. Enthusiastic students took a part actively in the activity. The competition among group was pretty tough as they worked as team. That was difficult for organizer as well because there were twenty groups and the hall was really crowded.

Another fantasy was the “Mummy in Sweet” where students were provided two rolls tissue papers per group. They need to role on the tissues paper on the body of one of their team mate to make “Mummy” In addition, after that,  the “Mummy” need to run and take a sweet using her/his mouth from the plate which was full of flour.

One of the participants, Md. Mahfuz Alam 19 from Nepal said that the activities taught him many important lessons about daily life where so many things have to be solved by techniques and group work. She added in future Peer Buddy could come out more interesting activities which is mind challenging.

My Story
Football Tournament to Pulau Langkawi

By Jouma Makame Junior

September 13, 2012 was the day when I started my journey from AIU to the beautiful tourist Island known as Pulau Langkawi, as a chosen football player among fifteen chosen players to represent AIU in local football tournament which was held in Pulau Langkawi.It was kind of new experience as it was my first time to participate in this kind of tournament, especially away from my country with different people from different countries. As a normal football player the only thing that would fill up in his mind, is to participate and come out with champion but things were different from my side, because the only thing that I was thinking was how I was going to cope up for the few days that we were expected to stay together with new family (not AIU).Reaching the place, things were different from the way I expected they were. Apart from taking part in football tournament, there were few things I experienced as follows;

Interaction, as a foreigner in a certain place, he or she needs to interact with local residents of that particular place in order to know the rules as well as life style of the residents. To get to know all these details I had to get close to the local people so that they could give me more details concerning the place. This behaviour led me to the interaction with different local people and shares a lot of information about the place as well as giving them information about my country.

Teamwork, in order to achieve certain as a team, members of that particular team must work as one family. They must have the same plan to achieve a certain goal. In order to win and come back with championship, we as football players worked together as brothers from one family. Not only in the pitch but also outside, sharing ideas as well as helping each other in different aspects were our habits. Although we lost the championship but no one was sad about it because what we had learnt from the tournament and other local people was more than the championship.

Life is all about exploring and experience new things. It is not bad for people to try and experience life with new people in different environment. By doing this people may be aware about the current issues as well as exploring information about other societies around the world.

My Story

by: Ngene Carljenta

A popular saying in English goes thus, “Learning without playing makes Jack a dull boy”. In this respect, AIU as a whole and the sports department in particular under the general supervision of Mr. Azman and the rest of the crew gave us the support physically, spiritually, mentally, morally to participate in the International Student Sports Carnival at University Tenaga National (UNITEN).

Being a ‘baby’ university, AIU still managed to immerge victorious over many renounce and famous university in Malaysia. This was not an astonishment due to the tremendous efforts shown by many of the staff; the students to are not left out as most of them burn the mid night candles to ensure the enormous victory they achieved.

Efforts of the team coach of basketball in the person of Mr. Rosli cannot be over emphasized as he tried had to get through to the semi-finals of the tournament .Also our coach for the net ball grasped the second gold medal for the school at the end of the closing ceremony giving an overwhelming joy and smile to the faces of the entire crew of AIU as this was the last match to crown the end of the ceremony.

The dexterity of the football team too is not left out as the emerged second with specular play from very experienced players like Nchang Sanda Herve’, Jalantum Abdurazak ,just to name a few. Table tennis finished third in the group classification and Ngene Carljenta finished third in the men single 2000m indoor rowing to bring AIU to 6 medals in all. With all this, we emerge d amongst the top 5 best outstanding university for the 2012 ISSC in UNITEN. Special thanks go to Mr. Azman who was the general manager of this event.

Even though we had some setbacks such as amateurism, feeding, medication, we still managed to do all we could to the apex of our abilities to see that the flag of this our prestigious and darling institution (AIU) to fly at high altitudes. We are looking soonest to see AIU one day emerging the overall champion of this tournament ‘inshallah’.
